Hello everybody, i'm new not only to this forum, but to eclipse and mac os x also. this winter i'm going to take couple computer classes, and my friend recommended me to try eclipse ee. but after downloading tar.gz. file, i wasn't be able to unarchive it, or unzip it.
i tried simple program as Unarchiver and also mac's terminal, but unsuccessful. Either of the programs i used, get unresponsive with in few seconds and macbook pro temperature reaching 100C. Nothing helps after that to drop temperature down, either restart or shutdown. As soon as i turn macbook on, temperature goes up again pretty fast. the only thing helps, is to run Onyx and clean what is possible.
i have macbook pro mid 2010, with mountain lion installed on it. And as i said before, i'm not a tech guy, so if you need additional information, PLEASE tell me in detail how to get it.
Really appreciate your help, if somebody can, thank you guys in advance.
Stan.

There may be a different best practice for Macintosh, as that platform
always seems to do stuff in its own way. However, as Macintosh is *nix,
this will work too:

1. Open a console window.
2. Find your Eclipse tarball (what you call the tar.gz).
3. Move it where you want to run it from (this is where Mac best
practice may have an opinion); let's say /home/stan/dev.
4. Explode the tarball thus:

~/dev $ gunzip -c eclipseeclipse-jee-juno-platform.tar.gz
~/dev $ tar -xf eclipseeclipse-jee-juno-platform.tar

And you're there.

The next thing to look at is http://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse.ini .
And you'll want to create some kind of launcher; that would be a
Mac-specific action that's different from Windows or Linux where I live
and work.

Best of luck.
