What is UML2 plugin? [message #122153] Wed, 26 November 2003 01:45 Go to next message

Is it something like the RationalXDE plugin? Can I draw UML diagrams with
it?

Or do I need another plugin if I want to draw UML diagrams?

I think it would be good if on the UML2 plugin page would be clearly written
what it is and what it is not. I don't see any screenshot links. So it seems
that it is something not visible. But I don't want to download and test it
in order to know it.

So I ask here. Can someone please tell me what it is and what it is not?

I get the impression that its used to draw the UMLs, but I'm not sure
how that relates to generating classes or visually editing program
structure... that's what I'm wondering about..

Is it just me, or is Eclipse getting these sweet-ass plugins all the sudden?

From what I read, this is just a MOF layer that is being 'modeled' in EMF.
There is not any UI associated with it, it is only the underlying pieces
that describe the model. I feel this is for IBM to utilize the community to
see how we feel what the model should look like before they take that model
and create a UI with a new product from Rational. Other plugins like Omondo
(http://www.eclipseuml.com) will be able to utilize this MOF layer as well
providing an easy access point for people to create GEF representations of
an EMF model and eventually JET to generate code (aka MDA). Note that the
UML 2 spec has not been finalized and this project will probably change
directions rapidly until the UML 2 spec is completed, so if you need
modeling look for a tool that supports the 1.4 spec for now.
