My environment is:

Eclipse project sdk 3.1.0
EMF SDK 2.1.0
Graphical Editing Framework SDK 3.1.0
Visual Editor SDK 1.0.2.1
Web Standard Tools Feature 0.7.0

It wont regognize xml files, do syntax highlighting or syntax verification.

Is there a way to fix this?

You need to upgrade the VE SDK to a version that matches/includes
the correct version of JEM:
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/tools/ve /downloads/drops/I-I20050623-200506231440/VE-SDK-I20050623.z ip

Additionally, have you restarted Eclipse with the "-clean" argument?

Not sure, you might track down if the version of JEM that comes with VE 1.0.2.1 is compatible
with the version we require, but would be surpised that'd effect highlighting, etc.

If you can not get to work on a recent build, such as RC1, please open a bug, and
attach a sample of the file you are trying to edit, and your configuration and .log files.
(This later two available from the "help ... about" box).

Thanks,

Do you have any other XML editors installed? If so, this is a symptom of
an editor conflict.

It is not. You need VE 1.1 for WTP 0.7, else no XML Editor shows up.

I have tried your suggestions and upgraded. My configuration is now:

Eclipse project sdk 3.1.0
EMF SDK 2.1.0
Graphical Editing Framework SDK 3.1.0
Visual Editor SDK 1. 1.0
Web Standard Tools Feature 0.7.0 (RC1)
WTP EMF Integration Core 1.0.1.2

I have done a restart with -clean a couple of times.

Attached are the platform details and log files.

I am still not able to get any xml highlights or verification.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks
Mel

Mel,
From reading your .log, I'm seeing a lot of errors from the
org.vssplugin plugin as well as some odd EMF errors that indicate
mismatched versions of EMF (or possibly parts of VE/JEM) at runtime.
You might want to remove the old VE, JEM, and EMF versions you
still have installed and restart with -clean to see if it makes a
difference. I'm not sure the XML UI plugin was starting properly
and this could be because of odd dependency problems with the
multiple versions you have installed.

Additionally, you shouldn't need the Sysdeo Tomcat plugin if you
install the full WTP instead of just the WST part. The JST (J2EE
Standard Tools) included can launch and debug Tomcat and many other
kinds of servers.

FWIW, I have found that -clean alone does not provide a complete solution.
As I have moved forward with WTP milestones, and release candidates and
installed the newer versions of GEF, EMF, JEM, I have had to do the
following:
1. stop eclipse
2. install new versions of projects
3. remove old versions
4. eclipse -initialize
5. eclipse -clean

If I fail to remove old versions, and/or fail to -initialize eclipse seems
to get confused by the older versions.

It seems to me that -clean isn't doing as much as it needs to do to clean up
the environment when plugins are updated, but I have no basis for this other
than observation.

I liked your thought. So I went one better. I removed eclipse, all of it.
I deleted all the files under .metadata and even removed all the '.' files
(ie.. .classpath, .project, ...) from my project.

Then I reinstalled:
Eclipse 3.1
emf-sdo-xsd-SDK2.1.0
GEF-SDK-3.1
JEM-SDK-1.1
wtp-wst-sdk0.7C3

I then started Eclipse and found the error log to be empty. I have attached
the Platform Details.

My problems are:
JSP pages are not recognized, all I get it a text editor.
Under Preferences -> Installed Runtimes -> Add, I don't get any servers to
configure.
I also don't have the option to create a J2EE project.

Did I not install the correct items?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The JSP editor is part of the J2EE Standard Tools (JST) which you
can find in the full WTP downloads (the Web Standard Tools are
included as well), "wtp-sdk" or just "wtp" _instead_ of the wtp-wst
downloads.

The corresponding file for what you already have would be
wtp-sdk-0.7RC3.zip.
