CDT 2.0.1 is now available for download. You can find the update site and
zip files at:

http://update.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/releases/new

A list of defects that have been addressed can be extracted from Bugzilla
(there is a shortcut to the query on the "New" section of the CDT home
page.)

The CDT development teams appreciate the feedback that we have been getting
(both in bugzilla and on this newsgroup). If you would like to contribute
to the CDT, as a user, a tester, a developer, or if you just wish to have
your least favorite bug removed, please look at the FAQ on how to contribute
to the CDT.

Because you don't want to use it (I think). I tried it today (using the
zip) and it hangs even if you are scrolling a file of 88 lines or give
in text. It lasts not even two hours on my PC, would have been one, but
it hangs to often. ;o)

Edzard,
I think maybe you corrupted your install. We haven't seen anything
remotely like that in our testing.

If Eclipse/CDT is crashing as frequently as you say, it will leave
behind a log file in the '.metadata' directory of your worskpace with a
stack trace.

Why not start with a clean Eclipse 3.0 install, install CDT 2.0.1 from
the update site, and try again. If the problem persists, look for the
stack dump and put it in a bugzilla report along with the steps to
duplicate the problem.

Hello Sean,

no, it is not crashing, it hangs, gets stuck, hooks (I'm not native
english speaker). For example, when typing in text (I'm fast ;o) the
text doesn't appear for a moment and then I can see it coming (typing a
little faster than me ;o). Similar the scrolling - taking the scrollbar
by mouse and moving the text up and down it stops for a moment and then
goes on. This is different to CDT 2.0.0.

> Why not start with a clean Eclipse 3.0 install, install CDT 2.0.1 from

I ordered a faster PC (not only for Eclipse ;o) and will try to use
features, when working on it. But in the moment CDT 2.0.0 is good
enough, I learned how to use it and there are several things I like.

Best regards,

I've got the same problem!
My Eclipse (and with it the rest of the computer) gets stuck nearly
every ten minutes and nothing happens until i quit it (the 'x' button
works).
I've already tried a clean install and tried also on another pc.
(on a XP 2400+, 512 MB Ram, WinXP SP2 and a Duron 700, 256 MB RAM, WinXP
SP1 (both via ZIP and/or Updater)
On both PC's CDT's behaviour stays the same.
I don't know what to do next.
(when I close Eclipse i get a window with a error message, but I can't
remember what. I'll writ it down the next time I see it!)

Maybe I found the Solution for at least my problem (maybe everyone else
knows that already):
I didn't use the same workspace as the old version, instead I used a new
directory and imported my code.
Since I did this everything seems to work fine.

Hmm, seems that this is not working really good;
I got the following message window when closing eclipse manually:

I don't know if I've made a mistake or if this is the programs fault.

No, I am not kidding. I simply do not want to bother with downloading stuff
anytime something newer comes out. If there is clean, safe way to have
software updates - like Eclipse does - I would allways use it.

maybe you are right and there is a way, to use this software updates
right now. I'm more pessimistic and regard it as another bug - with
lowest priority, because it affects the user only once for a couple of
weeks. Momentary the recommended clean and safe way seems to be a clean
installation. That doesn't affekt me, because I'm using windows and the
recommended way to react for problems... ;o)

This is not a perfekt world and resources are low, so I hope CDT
developers will do things first, that bother everytime using CDT.

In general, a comment that translates to "it is broken" (without any detail)
is ignored by anybody that could help you.

If you were to provide the steps that you did, followed by what actually
happens, and then tell us what is different from what you expect, you are
likely to get help.

For example,
I installed eclipse-SDK-3.0-win32.zip into c:\eclipse which was a new
empty directory
I then started eclipse, selected a new workspace.
From the help menu, I select SoftwareUpdates->Find and Install
Select Search for new features to install
Add a new remote site http://update.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/releases/new
(I called it CDT)
I expanded this new site and selected CDT 2.0.1
Then I selected the Eclipse C/C++ Development Tools
After accepting all the legal mumbo jumbo, Everything installed

I did this before sending the initial posting about 2.0.1 and I did it again
before responding to this post.

There is a funny artical written on how to get help in an open source
environment "How to ask questions the smart way" by Eric Raymond. (This
is mentioned in the FAQ). The people who work on the CDT are not as
behaviorially challanged as the examples in the article (my opinion -- it is
likely that I am biased), but there is a lot of good advice that applies
anyway.

I was saying that I have no idea why YOU have a problem doing this. It

If you don't have a problem, I don't understand why you sent the original

Hi Dejan,
I think Dave's concern is whether or not the update site is somehow
broken and if it is, we want to make sure other users don't encounter
the same problem. Basically, we are trying to press you into service as
a tester. If you could tell us the steps you take that end up with no
2.0.1 update available, we would appreciate it because as far as we can
tell from our side, there is nothing wrong.

Thanks,

Sean

So Daniel,
Your work-around of creating a new workspace does not solve the problem?
Just out of curiosity, what was the last version of the CDT you were
using (i.e. was it a 1.2 -> 2.0.1 upgrade, or a 2.0 -> to 2.0.1
upgrade). As well, what version of Eclipse are you running with?
Finally, do you have a .log file in your .metadata directory? If so, it
should have a stack trace which may help pin-point the problem.

The last Version of CDT I was using was: 2.0
At the time of my last post I used Eclipse 3.0 and now I'm using
Version: 3.1.0
Build id: 200409011200
I'm using jre 1.4.2.

Since Installing 3.1.0 the problem occurs not so often but is not gone
completely

I did a search with google and it seems that something is causing
javaw.exe to shut down.
I found this explanation for a (maybe??) similar error with another
eclipse plugin:

> When opening a pre-existing html page, clicking on the visual designer tab causes Eclipse to hang indefinitely, then crash on forced exit with an javaw.exe error (exit code: 1073807364). I'm running Eclipse 3.0, workbench version 3.7.2.00 Build id: 200407091200-3.8-Beta2. Please advise
>
> There is a known bug with 3.8 Beta 2 in the visual design where a certain set of HTML will cause the designer to go into an infinite loop

I do not know if this has something to do with my problem, because I'm
rather new to programming and specially with java!!

There is no log-file in my .metadata directory

Thanks for your help,
Daniel

I wonder if you still have the old workspace kicking around if you could

Sean:
The External search markers is not set.
I deleted my old workspace when "installing" a new.

I wonder if my problem is similar to (or the same as) exquisitus' and
Per Arnold Blasmo's (in the 'crash in version 2.0.1 thread)???

Sometimes (or most of the time?, i can't tell exactly) the problem
occurs when indexing.
But then it doesn't happen very often since I installed eclipse 3.1
(though it is still annoying)

Thanks for your help,
Daniel

If you can raise a defect w/a code example or project that causes the
problem, I'll take a look at it this week.

I'll try to get some code with an reproducable error.
But I don't know if I'm able to do reproduce the error, because im not
getting it that often than when I first wrote a post in this thread.

Sure, just be clear in the defect that its not easily reproducible.
