2.0M6 install problem [message #91105] Thu, 08 January 2004 05:34 Go to next message

Hi There!

I have a problem installing the latest 2.0M6 Version of CDT:
After installing Eclipse 3.0M6, I followed the instructions on the CDT
Homepage to install 2.0M6 (using Help->Software Updates->Find and Install).
I did this as root (I'm using the linux/gtk version of eclipse and cdt),
because it failed when doing as a normal user (could not write some files
due to permission problems). It seemed to install without any problems.

But when I restartet eclipse as a user, the CDT plugin did not appear. It
looked like I never installed anything.

I remembered a similar problem with 2.0M5, but the incorrect version number
in the fragment.xml file, which caused the problem with 2.0M5, is correct.

Any ideas how to fix this?
tia..

Ciao, Branko.

Cool, I haven't even announced the availability yet.

I generally install Eclipse and the CDT with my user account. That's
usually because as a developer, I do this quite often. Installing as root
could be problematic as there might be some files in the install that get
updated by the user on startup (e.g. the .config file?). Try it in an
eclipse install in your home directory and see if you get the same thing.

BTW, linux/gtk is my main environment as well and I did a quick sanity run
before releasing the build. But that's been proven faulty before...

Doug.

Hi!

Is there no way to install as root so multiple users can share the
installation?

Regards,
Jochen
