Really J2ee is a wide very world. So I think it could start off with a good
jsp editor : (. One that would not enforcing you to mix a lot with your
project configuration structure adding directories and files like others do.
At least Lomboz, that is the only decent editor out there. I think there
must be a good one in eclipse core. As I'm here, could start with some
sugestions. People, let's start to make it roll, even if Genuitec wants it
to die. I'm not an expert in eclipse plugins, but I would like to help in
any way, maybe be a very very very good reason to learn better. And I
suppose that hundreds of developers out there are willing to it too.
It can have other modules, too. Like a plugin to tomcat. Sorry Sysdeo, yours
are very good, but I think there should exist one opensource to push
competition level : ) And it could have JSP debugging direct at jsp code,
like we have at jbuilder (the best I've seen) or Netbeans, which is
opensource (since 2000) too. I don't want to change to netbeans becouse of
it, since I like too much eclipse IDE. Gonna wait a till more, to see if a
good soul to donate some code to opensource, or having to install the whole
world (like lomboz) just to get code completion in a JSP ??
Of course, a lot of people would want a j2ee plugin too. But I think it's
another story, since there are so many approaches to deal with J2EE helping
tools (since doclets tags or a visual component tool) and so many different
vendors. web specification is a lot narrower than J2ee. This support lack
(JSP/servlet tools at the core) and swing/swt editors are the only missing
points of eclipse, to be the best choice at IDE out there.

Several points:
1) I request that you refrain from making inaccurate assertions that you
have no knowledge of regarding Genuitec's position towards the Web Tools
project. Our position has always been that MyEclipse will benefit from such
a project. Our strategy is to provide our customers the "Best of" plugin
solutions through MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench. We do this by either
creating new solutions or through the partnering, adoption, and extension of
solutions from elsewhere including the Web Tools project.
2) Genuitec has much experience in developing J2EE system solutions and
Eclipse tools for J2EE, e.g., MyEclipse, EASIE, and WIK, and has volunteered
to provide various levels of assistance to the Web Tools project. So we are
open to contributing back to the organization from which we have gained so
much.
3) I believe MyEclipse offers users the fastest path to a high quality,
ultra low cost J2EE Eclipse-based IDE that meets the acceptance requirements
of corporate IT. Specifically, I believe MyEclipse Web Tools offers users
the best near and long term option available for the Eclipse users.
Presently we have a series of new releases in the works that will far exceed
anything you have seen today in MyEclipse or else where. If you have
specific issues with MyEclipse features or improvement ideas please post
them to one of the MyEclipse forums. We value user feedback and we promise
to respond quickly.

if you take a look at netbeans, which out of all problems it has, and even
missing a lot of features of eclipse ones, has an excelent GUI builder,
don't know as eclipse can take it out of it's objectives.

i made some comments in a test I made between netbeans and eclipse. Very
succinct and will have some continuation...
