Is there anyway to Open a .java (or any file for that matter) from my File
System without having to import it into my Workspace?

I'm constantly trying to view sample code from various locations on my file
system and thus far I have been forced to open them within WordPad just to
view them!

Please help!

Thanks,

Brian Hudson

You might want to add yourself to the CC list on
http://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=37935. I don't know if
anyone's paying attention to the votes, but it can't hurt to bump that
up as well :-)

As an interim solution, please download a apropriate viewer. I recommend
jedit or ultraedit (the last one is windows payware, but good).

At least you will get syntax highlighting and better search capabilities
etc.

I always open java files with a normal text editor as default, just in
case. When - if you double click on a java file - do you really want to
open it with an IDE? Even if that IDE is Eclipse :)

Yes, there are two plugins that address this need in 2.1 (hopefully 3.0 will
have this built-in):

Fileopen - can be found at www.eclipsepowered.org
Filedrag - see www.sourceforge.net/projects/sunshade
