questions regarding new integration process [message #70922] |

Hi,
I work on a new Mylyn extension to task repository. since I'm now in the
process of getting my company's approval, I don't want to make it
"official" yet. once I get the approval - I will introduce it.
My goal is to make it a Mylyn project, like Bugzilla, Trac and Jira
extensions, with EPL license. I would also like to lead this extension
project.
I have a couple of questions which I should answer the open source
committee in my organization in order to proceed:
1. is it possible to lead and manage a Mylyn extension project, or will
this require self hosting?
2. If this is a Mylyn project, do I need to be a committer, contributor or
is there a different contributor type for integrators?
Thanks for your help,
Yaron.

Hi Yaron,
you can host and develop you connector outside of the Mylyn project. If you
don't want to provide your own hosting space you can consider publicly
available services such as Google Code or Sourceforge.net.
If you want to contribute code to Eclipse.org it has to go through a legal
review. If you want to maintain the code as part of the Mylyn project you
have to become a committer first. This wiki page has more detailed
information:

Yes, I would recommend earning commit rights if you want to host your
connector on Eclipse.org. The process is described here:
http://www.eclipse.org/projects/dev_process/Eclipse_Standard _TopLevel_Charter_v1.1.php
Feel free to post more specific questions to mylyn-dev@eclipse.org or file a
bug report if you have a proposal for hosting a connector on Eclipse.org.

Hi Steffen,
thanks for your response.
I already checked this wiki page, but wasn't clear regarding my specific
question.
Just want to be sure I understand you correctly:
the only way to have my connector as
org.eclipse.mylyn.myConnector is by becoming a committer to the whole
Mylyn project?
Thanks,
Yaron.
