TPTP & SA4J [message #70279] |

Hi all,
I came across IBM's SA4J tool - http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/sa4j -
some time ago and noticed that it uses the Eclipse core. I mentioned the
idea of incorporating it into the Eclipse Modeling Porject on their
newsgroup, and Fred suggested posting it here since TPTP already has some
static code analysis tools. Would there be any chance this could be
incorporated into TPTP?
I know that the Alphaworks group has donated technology to Eclipse before,
and was thinking they might be open to donating this piece with a little
encouragement, especially since they're giving the standalone app away.
Again, this is just a thought, but it would be a really useful tool made
easier to use if it were integrated into Eclipse. I realize this is out
of my hands, but it's worth a shot. Please let me know any thoughts you
have. :-)
Thanks,
Jim

If you are asking if the static analysis framework in TPTP can support the
kinds of things SA4J does, the answer is yes. The analysis framework is a
pluggable architecture that can accommodate just about any kind of analysis.
It offers a rule engine framework to allow you to create a new rule engine
from scratch, or you can integrate something that already exists.
If you want to spend money, IBM's Rational Software Architect already does
this and more, but I don't believe there are any plans to open source that
capability.

Sounds like you want to apply some votes to bugzilla_#133392 <
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=133392 >. I ran across
this one while perusing the list of enhancement requests proposed for
the upcoming TPTP 4.3 release.
