Hi,

I attached 2 files here that demonstrate my problem with the layout
formatting in Birt (and specifically: my inability to size the columns the
way i want:

as you can see in the webview.jpg file (it's a screenshot of the html
preview), the third column contains little text and is still sized so wide,
that the column to the right that only contains 2 datetime fields (one above
the other) are actually wrapped, which doesn't look very nice.

(the other one, layoutview.jpg is a screenshot of the layout view showing
the way i created the report)

I've tried all kinds of tricks, using padding, margins, setting the size of
the outer right column (the one with the 2 dates), but Birt stubbornly
applies its own rules when it comes to dividing the available width.

Any suggestions ?

I've managed to resolve lots of minor issues I had with Birt, but as to this
one, i'm at a loss.

thx for your help,

Tom.

Hi, Tom
Please set the column width value of the third column to a value(For
example, 30%, or 200 px).
Please see attached pics.
The default value width of column is blank. That means column width fits to
contents. When you preview that table with blank column width in web viewer,
browser, which is embedded into web view, uses its algorithm to wrap the
word. That's why you get the very width column in the web viewer.

Thanks
Qiangsheng

Hello Qiangsheng,

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me.

If I apply a width value to any of the columns, absolutely nothing changes.
But I tested your suggestion with a simple report i created (just a table
with 1 detail row and 3 columns), and it worked there.

So maybe it has something to do with me having merged some cells,or because
i applied grouping or whatever ?

I've attached my report to this post (you'll see i used a 30% width size)

Kind regards,

Tom.

Hi Tom,

Please try to set every column width in your table, not just the 3rd column.
And if you could count the absolute size for every column width, it would be
better. As a result of this, "wrap text" should be performed automatically.

If you'd like to wrap text in the designated point, please use script (e.g.
replace( ) ) to seperate the string in that point. The separator could be
different, which depends on the parser of IE in your local language
environment.

The attached snapshot is seized from html preview of a report, which is
created by following your attached design file. I'm sorry that we are not
able to revise your file in designer, because the data source is associated
to your local database.

If the format still doesn't work, please send the sample database to me. If
any copyright/security issues exist, you could use some meaningless
charaters instead of the records. However, it should be able to reproduce
the matter you encountered.
Cheers.

Regards,
Nina
