Where is the XML editor? [message #57429] |

Hello everyone,
I've just installed the brand new WTP M2 on top of Eclipse 3.1 M4
running on Windows XP SP2. I also followed the instructions for XML
validation (installing Xerces 2.6.2).
Unfortunately I can't find the XML editor/validator. XML files (and
HTML/HTM/GIF/JPG) now open in the internal Web Browser, which is not
very helpful.
I searched every menu, perspective and project type. The only new XML
related entry I could find is the new "XML Catalog" preferences page. I
uninstalled WTP M1 for a similar problem, but this time the XML editor
is part of the High Priority items on the milestone plan
( http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads.html#milestonebuil dnotes).
Regards,
Andreas

"Open with..." does not list the XML editor.

I just cross-checked and installed Eclipse from scratch. I made sure
that I have at least 1 GB free on my drive, then I unpacked
eclipse-SDK-3.1M4-win32.zip 90,0 MB (94.433.804 bytes) and
wtp-1.0M2.zip 15,3 MB (16.054.198 bytes)
and installed in the WTP as usual.
Again, Eclipse claims that the WTP is installed (Manage
Configuration...) but no XML/JSP anything is available. There is no
other Eclipse plugin installed.
My Eclipse .log:

Be sure to check your .log file (in the <workspace>/.metadata directory. There should have been errors listed there saying which plugins were disable due to missing pre-reqs.
We probably could, in theory, improve some of the error messages, but in general, not sure how much we can do (other than log the warnings).
Once we get "update manager" function supported, this will be easier, and it will report errors or "need" for other plugins/features.
Thanks for persisting with these early versions.

Andreas,
Just to make sure... did you unzip the dependencies required for wtp (EMF,
GEF, JEM) as listed on the download page [1]?
