There are no currently available official linux 64bit eclipse builds.
Although there once was a 64bit version of PDT, I'm not sure if it was
official or was it made by someone else. I have used it and it worked ok.
However debugging support was not working there.
If your Eclipse works slow, check your Java environment.
Make sure you got Java from Sun, and that it's version 1.5+.
In my case, going to Java 1.5.8 reduced memory usage about 10x...
If you use 32bit build of Eclipse, use also 32bit Java. There is a
possibility that your distro does not provide that in default install.
If this does not help, check you log ({your_workspace_dir}/.metadata/.log),
you might find some clues there.
