Eclipse 2.1 hangs on Sun JVM 1.4.2 beta on SuSE Linux 8.2 [message #54318] |

I am testing Eclipse 2.1 on a Sun JVM 1.4.2 beta on SuSE Linux 8.2 and
experienced that the IDE hangs very often, e. g.:
- In 9 of 10 tries, when invoking "Project/Rebuild all", the "Progress
Information" dialog opens, but does not show any progress bar. The process
viewer shows that the VM eats up 50% of my processing time, but actually
nothing happens. Even after one hour the IDE still hangs unchanged.
- Sometimes when I try to open the "Run..." menu item from the button with
the "running man" on it, the IDE freezes partially: The widgets work, but
the IDE does not respond (e. g. menus open, but actually do not execute
selected items).
- The editor panel once in a hour shows grey bars instead of characters.
Scrolling up and down repaints correctly.
- Doing a syntactical error, typing CTRL-S shows a task in the tasks list.
Then I am correcting that error, pressing CTRL-S again. The editor pane
shows no more problem icons, but the task still is there. Executing "Build
All" removes the tasks, even when there is nothing to compile actually.
Would be great if someone could tell me if this is a problem of Eclipse 2.1,
of the Sun VM, or of SuSE Linux 8.2, so that I know where to complain
about...
Thank
Markus

Tried new installation of Eclipse, recreated all projects. Same behaviour
with different VMs. Even when I just want to close a project eclipse hangs.
