Dear Eclipse Community,

I currently have a Eclipse 2.0.2 installed and running on Debian GNU/Linux
3.0. Overall I am quite pleased, but I have run into what I would consider
to be a usability short-coming.

I currently have Eclipse installed in /opt/eclipse, and this works fine for
normal use. However, in order to install new features or upgrade new
features requires root priveledge.

What I would like to do is have a set of system defaults installed under
/opt/eclipse, and then allow individual users to install their personal
features in a .eclipse directory in their home directory. This would still
mean having root update system-wide features, but is preferable, IMO, to
having each developer running their own personal installation.

I've looked through both the on-line documentation and the installed conf
files, but can't find anyway to tell eclipse to look in multiple locations
for plugins. Is there something I'm missing here, or am I just out of luck?

Thanx,
Ian
