importing folders into a project [message #44835] Fri, 01 April 2005 01:41 Go to next message

I cannot import folders into an existing project.

I have created myproject with nothing in it.
I copy an existing source package into the myproject folder (in the hard
drive).

When I open Eclipse, open myproject, it does not reflect the directory
structure underneath.

I tried to right click on myproject to IMPORT. This does not work

Any idea of where is the procedure to import files into an existing project?

thanks
Laurie

Laurie,

(a) What type of files would you like to import?

(b) You don't need to copy the files into the project directory first
(might even be harmful). You should leave "administration" of the
workspace to eclipse.

So, could you have a try with moving the files out of you project folder
and then importing the files directly in eclipse (make sure, you check
the files, you would like to import, else the wizard wont be able to
complete).

Hope this helps,

Kai

I want to import a package of .java and a main.java.
My package is already in the directory of the new project. It should be
simple to say import stuff from my directory.
So you are saying that I must import from another location in principle.
I will do that.

I did that and it import only main.java not the directory structure.
I did IMPORT --> File system
I tried "create complete folder structure" (the folders are all checked)
it still does not import the folders.

I selected a subfolder in the file chooser.
I got the main folder being selected! Why is the UI not doing what I
selected?

OK I closed the project. I change VIEWs and I go back to Package. Now I see
multiple folders created: the main folder and even the root folder in
whhich main is.

NOTES on the UI:
There are inconsistencies in the UI. This is a simple operation though I
cannot do it.
The window mentions "create selected Folders only" (the folders are checked)
though there are not imported.

There are 2 things referred to in this UI: check marks and selection (name
of folder highlighed in a darker color).
the checkmarks are on by default (maybe the UI should talk about "check"
instead of "select".
As for the selection you cannot move the folders from the top left window to
the top right one. Only the top folder is always "selected".

I guess we have to close eclipse or windows in eclipse to make sure the UI
takes the changes into effects.

Thank you for your help.

Sometimes doing a "Refresh" (F5) will help.
