Issue with Eclipse IDE Performance after Latest Update [message #1871901] Tue, 15 October 2024 10:58 Go to next message

I've been using Eclipse IDE for Java development for a couple of years now, and it's always been a reliable tool. However, after the latest update (Version: 2024-09), I've noticed a significant drop in performance. The IDE becomes sluggish when switching between tabs, and there's a noticeable delay when I try to open large projects.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues? I've tried increasing the memory allocation in the eclipse.ini file by adjusting -Xms and -Xmx values, but it only helped a little.

Here are some details:

Eclipse Version: 2024-09 (4.28.0)
Java Version: OpenJDK 17
OS: Windows 11 (64-bit)
Any suggestions on how to improve performance or other settings I could tweak? Or should I consider rolling back to a previous version?

Thanks in advance for any help!

It is possible you run low on memory or there is a memory leak? Preferences -> General -> Workspace -> Show Heap Status. You could increase memory by editing the eclipse.ini.

I don't know much about how Windows Defender is involved with slowing things down, but do the changes that make it ignore Eclipse need to be updated release to release?
