Where's the marketplace? [message #1868079] Wed, 10 July 2024 15:48 Go to next message

I am not exactly a newcomer (using Eclipse since 2001...) but I found no better forum to ask this question - so here it goes:

I updated my (pretty well-working) Eclipse installation from Eclipse 2024-03 to 2024-06 today and now I just found that the Eclipse marketplace entry (in Menu Help) is gone!?! I don't assume that this is intentional or "to be expected", is it?

If yes: what's the alternative? Where else and how do we we fetch new features and extensions then?
If no: what could be the reson that this doesn't feature show up anymore? WHat can I check or fix to make it re-surface?

I want to install a new feature and for that I need access to the marketplace.

Is there something in the Error Log view that might indicate why the marketplace bundles aren't starting?

The latest released version is here:

https://download.eclipse.org/mpc/releases/1.10.3/

So you might try to uninstall it and then install from the latest.

Another hacky approach is to go to any listing:

https://marketplace.eclipse.org/content/testdoxon

Click on the heath icon

https://www.eclipse.org/setups/marketplace/?id=4142493

There it shows the update site from which you can try to install.

No - there was nothing that provided any indication why the marketplace didn't appear. There were a couple of groovy-code related issues (I had some groovy support installed that I later uninstalled again which obviously didn't fully work).
I then decided to install another copy of eclipse (in which the marketplace happily appeared) and then used that to simply install me all the plugins that I needed.
When - just for testing - I directed my old eclipse installation to that newly created workspace it also showed the marketplace again.
Thus - I conclude - the issue seems to have been due to some (corrupted?) data or settings saved in the workspace. But I am afraid that data has been cleared or overwritten by now.
