I've had Eclipse 2023-12 installed since it was released.

Yesterday, for some reason, a pretty major bug appeared, and it has persisted across restarts and reboots.

I use the search dialog numerous times every day. Now, The ctrl-h key binding, or even the "Search" menu item in the "Search" dialog (or even executing "open-search-dialog" from Emacs+) do nothing. No search dialog or error dialog.

I created the following bug report for this: https://github.com/eclipse-platform/eclipse.platform/issues/1151

I just tried bringing up 2023-09, and the search dialog comes up fine.

In the error log, I see the following:

!ENTRY org.eclipse.e4.ui.workbench 4 0 2024-01-27 10:06:18.174

Does it change based on which editor is active? The Java Editor? Another one? No editor?

It doesn't appear to matter. I've tested it when different editor types were active, and I just tested it after closing all editors (although I'm using Mylyn, so that was just the editors for the current task).

Ed Merks is asking questions in the bug report, and one thing that very briefly restored the search dialog was opening a new window from the main window. Again, that was only temporary.

I realized that this could be related to the Groovy plugin, as that's the last plugin that was updated, so I tried reverting to before that last update, and now the search dialog works again.

Be sure to report that to https://github.com/groovy/groovy-eclipse/issues .

Yes, I should have mentioned that. Already done: https://github.com/groovy/groovy-eclipse/issues/1537 .

For the record, I now can't even repeat this when I update back to the latest Groovy plugin.

This problem returned in my 2023-12 installation, and none of the workarounds made any difference. However, installing 2024-03 did result in the symptom not appearing anymore, at least for now.
