Installer opens website to install Java [message #1832027] Sun, 06 September 2020 05:49 Go to next message

Hi,

I ran the installer without a JRE installed, so I installed Oracle JRE 8.. Now, when I run it again, it opens a website, proposing to download a selection of Javas. How can I ask it to try again with the Java on the system?

Thanks,
Felix

You're sure you installed a 64 bit version of Java? Where exactly is your Java installed on your machine? Of course running the installer again will again look at what's installed on your system. Is this on Windows?

This installer contains a JRE:

https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/oomph/products/eclipse-inst-jre-win64.exe

And then you can choose which JRE is used by your installation (which also let's you review which JREs are known on your operating system).

Maybe not quite sure. I lost it this morning when I had to create an Oracle User Account to download a JDK.. I then downloaded something from https://www.java.com/en/download/win10.jsp, I assumed by now everything is 64 and didn't even care to check. Haha, in my face. Is this installer you linked made with the JustJ project?

That looks like 64 bit. Yes, that installer uses a JRE built by the JustJ project. The installer looks in the system registry for Java installations and tests the ones it finds for version and bitness. Perhaps it doesn't find it because Oracle changed yet again the key where it's stored...
