Reloading worspace preferences [message #337038]

Hi to everyone,

I have written an plugin, which preconfigures some preferences directly
writing some new values in the propertyfile.

Two questions:
1. Is this a common way or is there a better generic way to do?
2. When I rewrite the preferences how can I reload all the preferences
without restarting the whole workspace?
