Thanx,

hi,

If you are referring to our latest code in CVS, then the answer is Yes...our latest code in cvs does build and run with
the F1 build.

However, if you mean the latest downloadable CDT (20020508), then the answer is maybe..I don't think anyone has tried it
(we only support CDT builds on the specific Eclipse builds that they were built and tested with)...If the 20020508 CDT
does not work on the various Eclipse freezes (F1, F2...), then we may consider providing a downloadable build of the
latest CDT in the meantime. Please report any problems you find here or in bugzilla(http://bugs.eclipse.org/).

Thanks...

Jeff.

I tried it on Winodws - it doesn't work. Don't know about Linux.

When you say "it doesn't work" do you mean you can't access any CDT stuff from
within this version of Eclipse? CDT should work with F1 - there are a couple
people here that are using CDT with F1. Could you post the .log file
(eclipse/workspace/.metadata/.log)? If you've done your own build from CVS,
you might want to do a clean rebuild before using CDT with F1.

David,

I will rebuild from the CDT archive - my previous comments a relative to the
cdt version associated with M5. More on News at Ten ... and thanks,

David,

Where do I find information regarding building from the repository. At the
moment I can't even find the CDT repository itself, much less build from it.
dev.eclipse.org/home/eclipse gives me access to the eclipse stuff itself -
where is CDT??

Thanx,
Al

David,

Cancel my last - figured it out. The repository is at /home/tools - I'm
pulling the code now.

David,

I've been trundling through the checkout process for CDT. Is there a quick
way to add external jar files to a project other than one-by-one popup?

Another question/problem - I don't seem to be able to checkout
com.ibm.debug. When I try, all I get is any empty directory. Any reason
for this?

Thanx,
Al

com.ibm.debug is not needed, empty.

If you right-click on the project, and select Properties, then go to Java
Build Path. Click on "Add external JARS", and the dialog pops up will let
you select multiple jar files to add. Hold on to the "CTRL" key will let
you select multiple jar files.

Another way of doing this is to edit the .classpath file of the project.

Add the following entry to your file:
<classpathentry kind="lib" path="../com.ibm.debug.pdt/epdc.jar"/>

will add epdc.jar as an external jar. You can add multiple jar file by
manually adding more entries.

As for com.ibm.debug, this directory was created for R1. You no longer
need this directory. com.ibm.debug.pdt replaces com.ibm.debug in R2.

Hope it helps.

We have had some talk about defining a common .classpath file for each of the CDT
plugins. We would check this file into CVS along with our code so that anyone
checking out the CDT code would not have to go through the process of specifying
external jars. I think the Eclipse base does something like this.

I now have the CDT projects loaded on to my Eclipse workbench. At this
point I can invoke the runtime system and CDT is installed ... well ....
When the runtime starts up I get the following message on the console:

Reference action not found: additions

I assume this wonderfully enegmatic message is something everyone knows
about ... except me. What do I do to fix this?

If an when I get all of this stitched together I would like to genertate jar
files and install CDT on my base system. The documentations says highlight
plugin.xml and follow the wizard. I pick build.jar and nothing happens; a
quick look at build.xml shows why. So far as I can see nothing is defined.
I need a pointer here. How is the CDT installation built and if I'm doing
here what do I need?

Thanx,
Al

PS. attached is the log for the above error

Hi Allan,

The CDT is currently built and packaged by our overnight build process that is makefile based. Soon we plan to provide
the proper build.xml that can build\package our stuff from both inside and outside Eclipse, but we have been waiting for
Eclipse to publish it's internal build scripts so that we can do it in the same way (which we assume would be the
supported\recommended way ;-). In the meantime the makefile based packaging process is very simple to describe.

Our overnight build scripts really just do the following:

cd <...>/eclipse/plugins
cvs checkout cdt
cd org.eclipse.cdt.dstore.core
make -s production

This "production" target performs a number of steps all in one shot:
1. It generates simple makefiles for every subdirectory of the CDT
2. It builds the entire CDT
3. It creates jars for all the plugins
4. It zips the source for all the plugins
5. It creates the final zip package (leaving out the source trees, makefiles, CVS directories, etc)

So if you followed these steps you should end up with a CDT package that you could then install on your base system.
If you don't need to create the final zip or the zipped up source for each plugin, you could alternatively perform the
following, which would just do steps 1-3:
make -s development (does steps 1 & 2)
make -s jars

I haven't tried it yet, but perhaps you could set this up as what is now called an "External Tool" in Eclipse. Anyway,
there is a document in the works that describes all of this...I will post a note here as soon as I'm done with it.

Hope that helps...

Jeff

This message seems to have nothing to do with cdt - it's a feature of F1
itself. If I run without CDT installed it shows up anyway.

Darin pointed to the bug report that suggests you can avoid it
by unchecking

Window->Preferences->Workbench->Work in progress->Enable cool bars

which seems to work for me.

Indeed, the defect that Darin (thanks!) referred to is against Eclipse
Platform UI, not against CDT.

Depending on which version of Eclipse you're using, you might have to edit a
file to satisfy the org.apache.xerces contraint. The version of this prereq
changed between F1 and F2.

Open up the file plugins/org.eclipse.cdt.cpp.miners/plugin.xml. In the
requires section, you'll see something like this:
...
<import plugin="org.apache.lucene" version="1.2.0"/>
<import plugin="org.eclipse.tomcat" version="4.0.3"/>
<import plugin="org.apache.xerces" version="3.2.1"/>
...

If you're using F1, the version for org.apache.xerces should be "3.2.1". If
you're using F2, the vesrion should be "4.0.3". Try editing version or
leaving it out and see if this fixes the problem.

Hi,

I believe the problem you are having is due to the fact that for the F2 (or 20020602) version of Eclipse, the version
number of the org.apache.xerces plugin changed from 3.2.1 to 4.0.3. This broke one of our plugins
(org.eclipse.cdt.cpp.miners) that was depending on the 3.2.1 version being present, hence the message from your log:

MESSAGE Unable to satisfy prerequisite constraint from
> "org.eclipse.cdt.cpp.miners" to "org.apache.xerces".

Can you download the latest CDT nightly build for F2 and see if that fixes your problem?

Jeff.
