Are you responsible for providing eclipse at your firm? [message #329467] Wed, 25 June 2008 08:59 Go to next message

Hi,

If your answer to this question is "yes" then do you know if a community
is needed for people such as us?

I have been in sole charge of providing eclipse at my company for the past
2 years. Users are not allowed to download and install software from
outside the corporate firewall. So for 3.2 and 3.3 I created a set of
private update site mirrors + a policy based on the content of these. I
created an ant based eclipse installer, and discovered a way of provinding
global config for installs. Just as I was getting on top of things P2 is
released and I find myself looking up at another frustrating eclipse
learning curve.

So, if you know of a community group for 'corporate eclipse sys admins'
please let me know. If you would like to be part of such a group please
also let me know. I think there is room here for such a group where we can
get together, share knowledge and help one another.

Cheers,

Miles

Hi Miles,

I am in such a role. We are standardizing our Linux-side dev tools and
have chosen Eclipse. You seem to be a lot further down the path than I,
but I've only been doing this for four months.

Right now I am trying to find the JEE version Eclipse 3.3.0 - since
Ganymede has come out, I haven't been able to find it and my archives only
go back to 3.3.2. So, I am getting quite frustrated with the Eclipse.org
web site trying to stumble upon this version. Any hints as to where it may
have been tucked away? And, do you know how to suppress the web site's
"intelligence" for selecting a Windows or Unix version of Eclipse? I got
close to finding what I needed, but it was for Windows instead of Linux...
Arghhhhh!

Cheers,

/dave

The archive of the 3.3 JEE package you're looking for is here:
http://archive.eclipse.org/technology/epp/downloads/release/ 20070702/eclipse-jee-europa-win32.zip

Don't ask me how I got that, 'cause you don't want to hear the answer
;-) But I agree that the "really old" archives are difficult to find.
The coordinated releases are generally easy to find using their names,
for example http://www.eclipse.org/europa/ has the latest of all the
Europa (3.3.x) packages. But it is only the latest, so it would not help
you find the "obsolete" 3.3.0.
It is pretty easy to find the full archives of particular projects,
starting from the Projects page at eclipse.org

I suggest you enter a Bugzilla against the Web Site component asking for
a page that lists the archived packages and links to it from appropriate
other pages.

Hope this helps,
Eric
