I don't have experience installing the "standard" version. I would just
install Eclipse IDE for Java Developers, then go to Help -> Eclipse
Marketplace and look for PyDev.

If helpful, consult my notes here:

http://www.javahotchocolate.com/notes/pydev.html

Incidentally, do not come to this forum for help with PyDev issues.
PyDev is a set of thir-party plug-ins and you'll have to get help for
them in a different forum, perhaps stackoverflow.com.

Hope this helps.

The "Standard" download has since been replaced by the "Eclipse IDE for Eclipse Committers" (or at least that's the closest match for the feature list, you now get Mylyn and Code Recommenders included). Your documentation must be out of date.

No, the question you asked is for this forum and we're glad you came.
However, if you have trouble with PyDev itself, you'll know to go to the
PyDev community for help that you can't get here.
