Hi, my name is Son Huynh. I'm currently a student at the University of
Minnesota. I'm very interested in the Google Summer of Code and being able
to work with Eclipse. I'm using Eclipse in one of my classes right now and
I think it's great. I have an idea for a project I want to do and I just
want some input/feedback from you guys. I want to find a way to convert
the Eclipse framework into a web-based application. A user could
potentially remote into a computer, access their project files using a
web-based Eclipse and edit it as if they were sitting at that computer
editing their files using Eclipse. They would also be able to store files
on the internet and edit it there as well (sort of like Google Docs). This
project would be useful for people who don't like installing programs or
for employees who have company laptops and can't install anything, they'd
still be able to work on their projects. This could be very useful for
working on projects on the road.

I'm just looking for your opinion on whether you think this project is
worth doing and also if any of you have any ideas on how to implement
something like this.

This is just a general idea and with more feedback I hope to boil it down
to something more specific. I also know that this is potentially a very
big project and by no means am I saying I'll be able to complete a fully
fledged version of it within the Summer of Code but if it gets accepted, I
hope I can put out enough of a framework so that others may add on to it.

Hi Son,

Please see http://www.lemmster.de/blog/index.php/2008/03/19/171/. All in
gernal this is a great idea and there a lot of going on in future to
bring Eclipse or how I'd like to see it RCP-Applications into the
webspace (RAP, E4) but frankly I think this a too big project for GSOC
but you could maybe take part in the SWT-Port started as part of E4.
