plugins for J2ME and J2EE? [message #33042] Thu, 15 May 2003 06:36 Go to next message

Hi,
I have used eclipse some months in a J2SE project and I think it is really
good tool, I have also used these plugins: JadClipse and Jalopy.

But if I want't to develop application for the J2ME and J2EE platform and
using the eclipse platform, what extra plugins do I need?
What do you recommend, what is a good start?

Today I prefer to use: Borland Jbuilder Enterprise 8, Borland Together
Edition for JBuilder (version 6.0), Sun wireless toolkit and Nokia
developer suite for the J2ME.

Best Regards,
Ove

IBM offers WebSphere Studio Device Developer for J2ME development and WebSphere Studio Application Developer for J2EE.
See http://www-3.ibm.com/software/wireless/wsdd/ and http://www-3.ibm.com/software/awdtools/studioappdev/
I'll let other's chime in on non-IBM plugins and products based on Eclipse.

For J2EE, have a look at MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench
(http://www.myeclipseide.com)

Hello All,

I like to know if there is an "open-source" J2EE plugin also. Currently, I
am using both Eclipse and JBuilder 8 Enterprise. But I like to narrow down
to one to concentrate on for development.

Thanks.

There is the Lomboz plug-in (www.objectlearn.com).

Thanks for the suggestion. I went to the Lomboz site and checked. Lomboz
seems to be an excellent J2EE plugin. However, it is for version 2.1 ONLY.
I am still using 2.0.2. So my questions are:

1. Is there a J2EE plugin (whether Lomboz or others) for v2.0.x? I
couldn't find it on the Lomboz site.
2. At this time, is version 2.1 stable enough for us to upgrade to? I have
seen people posting problems here and it makes me skeptical. I don't have
time to reconfigure my environment.
3. If version 2.1 is indeed stable enough for upgrade. Is it simply move
all my files inside the workspace directory and all my files inside the
plugins directory to the new location for version 2.1 and it will work? Or
there is more to it?

Thank you very much.

Well, AFAIK, 2.1 is stable enough. I am using it from the day it appeared
with no problems (the Windows version). I am also using 2.1.1 Linux GTK
version that has some issues (will go for the latest 3.0 integration build
tomorrow :-).

Just unzip the 2.1 version in a different location than 2.0.2 (until you are
confortable with it, then you can erase 2.0.2) and start eclipse with the
-data argument pointing to your old workspace. For example,
C:\Eclipse_2.1\eclipse -data C:\workspace.

Also, a good idea is to keep your workspace outside the eclipse directory.

You're welcome! :-)
