Mylyn: Where did "Activity Report" go?? [message #31996] |

I've been looking for an answer to the mysterious, at least to me it's
mysterious, disappearance of the "File -> New -> Activity Report" option.
This was a great feature, I thought. It seems to have vanished in a
recent upgrade to mylyn 2.1
Is this functionality still available?
Is the lack of discussion on this newsgroup regarding this issue
indicative of a widely-known removal that I'm just not aware of??
Thanks.

not high enough quality to release with the June 29th Mylyn 2.0.

Note that we have a policy of posting all major UI changes of this sort
to the newsgroup, as you had expected, and we may not have been vocal
enough about this particular change since it was made as part of other
UI revisions. To make this kind of change easier to mine in the future
we will now have a policy of posting to the newsgroup with the UI label
referring to the element being changed. Note that we only do such UI
clean-up during the major version change, so it would not happen until
Mylyn 3.0 release candidates.
Alson note that such parts of the UI that are either deprecated or out
of scope for the project are moved into into the Sandbox, the update
site of which is available from:
http://www.eclipse.org/mylyn/builds/
In this case it's a bit of both. This function was partly superseded by
the Scheduled presentation of the Task List, and partly out of scope
because sophisticated support for planning and reporting were not part
of the 2.0 plan and as such the reporting facility did not end up
meeting the quality bar for the 2.0 release. If you still find the
report useful please consider opening a bug detailing the use case so
that we can figure out whether it can be met by improvements to the Task
List or otherwise.
Btw, which Mylyn/Mylar version did you upgrade from?

Mik,
I really appreciate your incredibly detailed response. It's always nice
when someone takes their time to properly respond, we just don't get
enough of that some times.
I will have a look on the Sandbox, and furthermore, I will post a plea
for this feature, or a similar feature, to the bugs list.
I upgraded from an early release of 2.0 (if not earlier, I don't really
recall).
I haven't used this functionality since early May of 2007. The feature
vanished during subsequent ugprades, particularly to 2.1, and I never
even noticed. The only reason I've come searching for this feature is
that I am now in charge of a small programming department, and they are
being indoctrinated into Mylyn. The reporting feature would have been
very helpful in filling out our new timesheet system (which is still
under development, actually) in an automated fashion. I had planned to
collect the reports from the programmers and parse the report data into a
simple SQLite store (or other, as I said, still under development).
Thanks again for your speedy and detailed reply.

However, also note that in the 3.0 cycle we plan on improving the
synchronization of Mylyn's timing with a task repository's time tracking
facilities (Bugzilla, JIRA, and XPlanner all have these). So depending
on which connector you use that might be of interest too, e.g.:
