Update site times out? [message #1649077] Wed, 04 March 2015 01:27 Go to next message

Anybody else experiencing problems with the Luna update site?

I get first 2% and then 10% of something, then it just times out.

Trying to add Papyrus to Eclipse SR2, but without the update site thing might be difficult...

I have experienced the same problem myself. I cannot add Papyrus SR2 to Eclipse SR2.

Hi,

There are indeed some issues with the Eclipse update sites. Lots of read time out and slow download speeds. AFAIK, it is not related to Papyrus

Hi Camille!

Found this conversation http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.ide.eclipse.cross.project/4939

but nothing more said after March 6, can you shed some light on this? Tried to install Papyrus SR2 as of today, but the update site still times out.

I can probably live without SR2, but if the same problem arises with Mars release... no fun...

I know this is not a Papyrus problem, but I don't know where else to put these question(s)?

Regards,
Tomas

Hi Tomas,

You can download the Zip version of the update site for Papyrus 1.0.2:

https://www.eclipse.org/papyrus/downloads/

Dependencies (and extra-plugins) will still need to be downloaded online, but at least this should help

Hi Camille!

While downloading the zip file was possible (but not from all the listed sites though), the installation stalls at stage 2 (it first took an eternity to get there) with the text "Cannot perform operation. Computing alternate solutions, may take a while. It probably takes more than that, after 5 minutes I gave up waiting...

This was the resulting message>

Hi

You usually don't want to know the solutions. Just cancel and it will
show you the problem that you can then fix.

(Bug 462545 raised to provide this feedback automatically.)

Today I tried around for other Eclipse update sites and found no-one to work!

After some googling I found that the culprit was the proxy settings of my computer. On my previous computer the setting was (and had been for many years in my company) manual proxy selection. But on this new computer the IT department had set it to automatic detection.

After setting the proxy to manual SR2 Papyrus installation works!

So, it appears I have cried Wolf when there was none....my sincerest apologies for this.

Regards,
Tomas

Hi Tomas,

That's really surprising. I've been able to make several different installations on different versions of Eclipse/Papyrus recently. It definitely takes more time than usual (To load the update site initially, and then to download the components), but it still works in the end. And Eclipse has a cache for downloaded artifacts, so even if something times out, the next attempt should start where the previous failed.

Which update sites are you using, and from which Eclipse package?

Hi Camille!

I have tried (from Eclipse SR2 32-bit):

- http://download.eclipse.org/modeling/mdt/bpmn2/updates/milestones/S20130822/
- http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.4

all respond the same with proxy set to automatic (i.e. all the selections available from start or those I have added myself). This morning I also noted that if I return the setting to auto without rebooting my computer, the sites seems to communicate properly with my PC. After I reboot (with proxy auto), the timeout returns.

I have actually seen a similar problem with auto proxy when moving my computer from the office to home. So, question is, related to the company network or how sites communicate? I have no clue, this is beyond my understanding... So, as far from Papyrus issues as you could get, but still intriguing...

Regards,
Tomas
