These representatives play a vital role in ensuring our governance remains grounded in the needs and perspectives of our community. Congratulations to those elected, and thank you to everyone who participated in the process, especially those who stood for election (details are below).
As we move ahead with our new 2026 leadership in place, it’s a timely reminder of the increasingly strategic role open source plays as a strategic enabler of innovation, resilience and collaboration across industries and geographies. Across Europe in particular, we are seeing a clear pattern emerge. Whether it’s semiconductors, cybersecurity, automotive technology, or developer infrastructure, the challenges are too complex and too interconnected for any one organisation to solve alone. Collaboration at scale is becoming the default.
The OpenHW Foundation’s recent launch of the Unified RISC-V IP Access Platform (UAP) is a really great example of this shift. By bringing together a curated industry-ready catalogue of RISC-V components, the UAP helps reduce fragmentation and lowers the barriers to innovation.
In parallel, our partnership with the European Cyber Security Organisation (ECSO) reflects the growing importance of open source in building secure and trustworthy digital systems. This collaboration is focused not only on advancing secure development practices but also on aligning with emerging regulatory frameworks and strengthening the integrity of software supply chains.
The need for sustainable open infrastructure is also becoming increasingly clear.
The Open VSX Registry now exceeds 300 million monthly downloads and continues to grow rapidly. This level of adoption reflects its role as critical shared infrastructure for a new generation of AI-driven developer tools and platforms, and reinforces the importance of operating that infrastructure at scale in a secure, reliable and vendor-neutral way.
Looking ahead, we are excited to bring our community together at OCX (Open Community Experience) on 21-23 April in Brussels. As our flagship event, OCX brings together developers, researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to exchange ideas, deepen collaboration, and align on the future of open source across key technology domains.
I’m pleased to report that our community and membership remain strong. As of 31 March, we have 304 corporate members and 2,170 committers. The 2026 budget, approved by the Board in December, reflects continued growth driven by our working groups and new initiatives. Also, I’m pleased to report that we also closed out fiscal year 2025 in a strong financial position, providing a solid foundation for the year ahead.
Thank you, as always, for your continued engagement and support.
