Advancing open source AI
Our work in AI took a major step forward with the launch of the Agent Definition Language (ADL) in Eclipse LMOS, the first open, model-neutral framework for governing agent behaviour. ADL positions the Foundation as a leader in building trustworthy, interoperable agentic AI for enterprise use.
Strengthening Europe’s digital sovereignty
This year, the Eclipse Foundation significantly expanded our thought leadership in Europe through two major publications:
- The Vital Role of Open Source in Europe, which highlights how open source underpins the EU’s competitiveness, regulatory alignment, and long-term innovation capacity.
- The 2025 Open Source Congress Report, which captured urgent themes facing the global open source ecosystem, including rising geopolitical complexity, the growing weight of EU-origin regulations, and the increasing need for coordinated, multi-stakeholder advocacy.
Jakarta EE 11 release
The release of Jakarta EE 11 represents a major evolution of enterprise Java. It brings modern, cloud-native capabilities to millions of developers and reaffirms Jakarta EE’s importance in mission-critical environments.
A fresh identity for a growing Foundation
Our brand refresh modernised our visual identity and better reflects who we are today: a global community shaping the future of open, collaborative digital infrastructure. The new design brings clarity, and a stronger human-centered narrative across our communications.
Community engagement and events
This year featured highly successful editions of Adoptium Summit, JakartaOne Livestream, TheiaCon, and SDV Community Days, each showcasing the depth of innovation across our working groups. Building off of these individual community events, I look forward to meeting all our members at OCX 2026 in Brussels, where we will bring together all our communities. Secure your early bird ticket.
Our membership remains strong. As of 30 November, we have 400 Organisational Members and 2,168 Committers. Financially, the 2025 budget recognises the significant growth the Foundation has experienced over the past 12 months, once again driven by our working groups and new initiatives.
