Eclipse ThreadX: A New Era for Embedded RTOS Technology

Microsoft has contributed the Azure RTOS technology to the Eclipse Foundation. With the Eclipse Foundation as its new home, Azure RTOS now becomes Eclipse ThreadX and it will be the world’s first open source real-time operating system with multiple safety and security certifications governed under the stewardship of a vendor-neutral foundation. Eclipse Sparkplug is now an International Standard for a “Plug and Play” Industrial IoT

Sparkplug® is an open software specification that enables mission-critical operational technology (OT) clients to use industry standards, including OASIS MQTT, to seamlessly integrate data from their applications, sensors, devices, and gateways with most Industrial Internet Of Things (IIoT) infrastructure.

Nominations for the 2024 Eclipse Foundation Board elections will open on January 3 and will close on January 31, 2024. 

The Eclipse Foundation Board of Directors includes representatives from both Contributing Members and Committer Members. Elected representatives play a vital role in the Eclipse governance process, providing insight into issues and opinions of the broader membership. We encourage all eligible members to participate.

You can find out more here about the election and the duties and responsibilities of directors.  All members will receive an email announcement early in the new year explaining how they can nominate someone, including themselves.

The Good Governance Handbook

This month, let's focus on the Good Governance Handbook of the OSPO Alliance, which has just been updated to version 1.2. This is by far the OSPO Alliance's flagship initiative, hailed as the most complete and practical framework to build an Open Source Program Office inside any kind of organisation. 

 The v1.2 release includes updates and improvements on the following topics:

• Introduction of relationships between activities
• A new chapter about InnerSource
• Improvements to the My GGI Board deployment feature
