Found JUnit4 plugin, but can't install it! [message #303342] Fri, 12 May 2006 13:46 Go to next message

So I found a JUnit4 plugin (it's actually 3 plugins I guess) for Eclipse
3.1.2, but I can not figure out how to install it. Does anyone know?

I've tried to just drop the 3 folders into the Eclipse plugin folder, but
that didn't do anything.

I've also tried to do the install procedure for local site and archive
using:
Help --> Software Updates --> Find and Install

The download does not have any install directions, install executable or a
configuration that Eclipse seems to recognize as a "site".

Download page:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=102632

Download zip:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/attachment.cgi?id=34259

Contents:
new-plugins.zip (zip archive)
plugins (folder)
org.eclipse.jdt.junit4 (folder)
org.eclipse.jdt.junit4.runtime (folder)
org.junit.v4 (folder)

Have you done a clean (-clean option on commandline) restart of Eclipse
after having dropped the plugins into the plugi folder?

No, but I just tried it, and I still don't see any change.

Maybe I don't know what to look for? I do a File --> New --> Junit Test
Case, and it looks like a JUnit3 type gui.

Do I need to do anyting in the menu items below to activate JUnit 4, or
even deactivate JUnit3?

Window --> Preferences --> Java --> JUnit
or
Window --> Preferences --> Java --> Build Path --> Classpath Variables
(tried to change JUNIT_HOME, but keeps reverting to JUnit3 on restart)

Thanks!

Well, after digging around a bit more on the Web it looks like this plugin
may only be for upcoming version Eclipse 3.2 (June 2006).
see: http://calenlegaspi.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_calenlegaspi_arc hive.html

Can anyone confirm that it won't work with 3.1.2?
Can anyone confirm the 3.2 version release date?

What a waste of time. :-(

That is an interim release though, not an official release right?
Are these types of releases safe to use?
How easy is it to keep up with all of the incremental non-official
releases?
In general shouldn't a user wait until the official full release?

I'm new to Eclipse so I don't know much about it. Thanks for any help.

A RC release is considered to be a stable release. So it can be used by
users and not only developers. If no show-stopper bug is found, a RC
release can be promoted the final release.
RC release also means that all features are available. Only critical bug
fixes can be included before the final release.
According to
http://www.eclipse.org/eclipse/development/freeze_plan_3.2.h tml#Release3.2,
the final release is planned for end of June as part of the Callisto
release train.
Hope this clarify what a RC release is.
