Hello, I'm really trying hard to understand Eclipse ganymeade.
I want to develop some joomla extensions so I require Joomla to be
part of my project but NOT part of my build. When I'm done creating my
files ( which have to be present in joomla while I"m developing ) I want
to be able to just zip them up and upload them to joomla with the
appropiate installer. My confusion right now is in trying to figure out
how to best layout my files so eclipse will embed my code in joomla yet
not include joomla as part of my "source" I saw a setting for splitting
the project into "administrator" and "public" but i'm not sure thats
what I want. I've been following these instructions except I'm using my
lan server as my test box, instead of my desktop as I was not able to
get xdebug to work with xammp or wamp. but it works fine on my linux server

My guess :

  • Create separate projects for core Joomla and (each of) your extension(s).
  • Regarding file hierarchy, put/retain your extension files in relevant subfolders under the Joomla directory, as usual.
  • When setting up the projects, set up core Joomla to not include all subfolders, in order to exclude your extension(s). Navigate through the menu: Project > Properties > PHP > Source Paths > {Build Path / Include Path}. (For Eclipse 2019-09.)
