All I want to do is detach an imported folder from my project.
Reverse import -> General -> File System
Why can't I just right click node and do a remove from project explorer!
I guess that would be too simple and logical!
I don't want to physically delete it. I want to detach it from the
workspace and leave it on my hard drive.
How difficult can it be. Can't find anything in help. Maybe I don't know
correct words to search on. But this is driving me nuts!

Delete alarm bells are not what I thought. Even though properties of
folder show original source, they are maintained as seperate artifacts
after the import. I thought that after importing, resource would be
maintained outside workspace. It's not. So the delete from file system
only refers to workspace.
Had to copy a huge directory to cover myself and then try delete.
Then realized it's only the workspace. How unclear this message is.
Don't say delete from file system.. Say delete from workspace !!!
Naff misleading messages!!!
Even more bizarre copying imports to create two versions. The to top it
off not synchronizing them.

But an imported folder isn't attached to the folder from which you imported.

I don't know. Is it a trick question? :-P

It seems both logical and simple.

So the problem is you're not comfortable deleting it because you feel
that it's a link rather than a copy...

So the ealy problem is your assumption/belief that it's attached, which
it's not.

I've been told that patience is a virtue. It sounds like what you
really wanted to have done is to have created a new folder in the
workspace and to have used the Advanced button to link it to an existing
folder in the file system. This creates something analogous to a
symbolic link. You'd still need to delete this link if you wanted to
undo it, but the message would make it pretty clear what's happening.

I don't agree at all. It's important to tell the user that what they
are deleting really is the underlying contents within the file system.
The workspace is generally just a view and deleting the view of
something is not the same as deleting that thing itself.

I'm not sure why you expect import to create a symbolic link. That's not
what I would expect. Export makes a copy as well... And one would
generally expect some symmetry between these two things... In any case,
the world doesn't always conform to our expectations. Sometimes that's
the world's fault, and sometimes it isn't.

I agree with Ed - "Import" always means "copy" and not "link" in my
experience.
