Greetings,

Now is a middle of the holiday season - the right time to relax a bit after
a rush days of Ganymede release preparation and sum up the results of our
work during the last half of the year. It was a hard, but interesting time
for the development team. First of all, we resolved a set of legal issues
and finally passed IP process that blocked us during long time. As Mike
Milinkovich said, "this has been by far one of the most complex IP diligence
exercises we have ever dealt with". Finally, we passed it! It allowed us to
make the first official Subversive 0.7 release on the eclipse.org and
participate in the Simultaneous Ganymede release. But the most important
achievement is stable and growing number of downloads. Recently Subversive
reached really fantastic number of 90 000 downloads per month!

But all these facts is only one part of a story. Another part should come
from YOU. We want to know YOUR opinion that will help us to be better in
future and provide more quality and usable tools for YOU. Thus, I started
this thread, where you can share your experience with Subversive. To
organize it, I propose a set of questions. You can answer all questions or
just one. Sure, if you prefer, you can share your feedback in free form.

We want to know better who are our users and what is their environment. So
my questions are:

1. Company name
2. Number of developers, who use Subversive

We want to know do you think about Subversive. So my question is:

3. What is your general opinion about Subversive? Are you satisfied? Why?

We want to know what should be improved. So my questions are:

4. What is the top issue for you?
5. What functionality should be improved?

We want to know your expectations for future development, so my question is:

6. What is the next feature, that you want to see in Subversive?

I'm really looking forward for your feedbacks. Thank you and let's stay in
touch!

Best regards,

Igor Vinnykov

7 developers. We also use Subversive API's on a fairly low level in
Buckminster.

It's a great product.

The fact that Subversive is dependent on bundles that cannot be
distributed from Eclipse.org. This slows down the adaption for
Subversion. I think it would be great if the lawyers at Eclipse.org
could talk to the guys behind SVNKit and come up with a license that
would be compatible. I really prefer their provider since it's pure Java.

Or, you could write a new Java provider more adapted to Eclipse. It
doesn't need to have the full server capabilities IMHO. The overhead
incurred when running a local server is something you generally can live
with. It's a fairly unusual setup and the ones who can't take the very
minor pain that the protocol introduces can always use another provider.

- Progress reporting and cancellation.
- The process of merging conflicting files could be more intuitive and
contain less steps.

Merge tracking capabilities.

Greetings,

I received only two comments so far... Thanks to Thomas and John, who shared
their opinions. I'm looking forward for more comments in this thread - by
sharing your thoughts you can help the project and the community.

Thanks!

Best regards,

Currently 10 developers.

I'm generally satisfied. I didn't spot any blocking issues, but I'm quite
new user of Subversive. I've been using different tools before, but I
wanted to give Subversive a try.

The biggest issue is with installation procedure. It would be very helpful
if everything could be installed from one update site on Eclipse.org.

> 5. What functionality should be improved?

- Checkout/Update performance
I don't know if this can be really improved, but I think that updating
of working copy could be faster.
- Better Mylyn integration
For example, when task is active and "Focus on active task" is switched
on in Package Explorer commit dialogue should include only files from
context of active task, not all changed files in the working copy.

Support for features included in Subversion 1.5, like merge tracking.
