When will profiling an application ever "just work" in Eclipse? NetBeans
so does this way better.

When I try to profile my application under Eclipse I get "Agent controller
is unavailable under port 10002."

According to the on-line help

By default, the Integrated Agent Controller (IAC) starts and stops
automatically and the local standalone Agent Controller may be started
only before the Integrated Agent Controller is started or after the
Integrated Agent Controller is terminated.

Start
Provided the local standalone Agent Controller is not running, the
Integrated Agent Controller will be started automatically when a client in
the Eclipse Workbench tries to contact the Agent Controller (specifically,
when you click on the Test Connection button on localhost or launch an
application using the IAC).

The on-line help leads me to believe that this should just work, but alas
it is not the case.

Does anyone know how to get the profiler to work in Eclipse?

Cheers, Eric

No matter how you really mean this, people here will be less helpful.
Hm, I never heard of a Profiler for Eclipse, but I have small ears...
Googlin' tells me about the "Coloror Plugin" which appears to be 3rd
party. Do you mean that one?

Sorry, I've tried to use the Eclipse Profiler (TPTP) before 2 years ago
and had exactly the same problem. It's frustrating to use something as
good as Eclipse, yet have one important feature that is so disappointing.

For 2 years the only reason I have run NetBeans is so I can profile my
application because I could never get TPTP to easily work, and when I did
get it to work is was equally disappointing.

I complained about TPTP 2 years ago, and got some feedback from one of the
Eclipse developers that TPTP was not as usable as they would like it to
be. I had hoped something had changed in the 2 years since.

TPTP comes standard with Europa. There is a Profiler button on the toolbar.

Cheers, Eric

Hi Eric,

I am not sure if any of the TPTP developers watch this newsgroup.
I have cc'd the conversation over to the TPTP group

Eric,

This forum is the correct place to ask questions about TPTP in general
and about the TPTP Java Profiler.

Let us know if you have any specific questions or problems, and we'll do
our best to help.

Best regards,
Asaf

Of-course I meant the "eclipse.tptp" forum :) I wasn't aware that I am
cross-posting to the eclipse.newcomer forum as well

Thanks,
Asaf

Specifically, how to I actually get the profiler to run when the agent
controller doesn't seem to be working?

More generally, has anyone thought about improving the user experience
surrounding TPTP?

Cheers, Eric

That=E2=80=99s a good hint. Of course they have, but I have to say that =
my user=20
experience is also very bad: install plugin, try around, give up (since=20
luckily, it turned out I didn=E2=80=99t need profiling =E2=80=93 yet). M=
aybe some other=20
time.

My only effort right now is to watch this group and see whether a=20
solution is found which might work for me.
