Part of the eclipse process is community outreach and EclipseCon is THE
place to do that. A couple of us were chatting and we think we can put
enough information together to do the following things at EclipseCon:

- Long talk (probably about SML),
- Short talk (Intro to COSMOS),
- Panel discussion (Using open source technology in systems management),
- Demo,
- Poster,
- Tabletop,
- BOF.

Is anyone interested in participating or have any thoughts about what we
should cover? Please add your comments to the following wiki page:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/COSMOSEclipseConTopics

We are targeting November 16 to wrap up discussion and get the abstracts in.

I'd very much like to participate.

Of the possible formats, nearly all of which we could pursue, the one I
find most appealing is the panel.

It would be great to get some dialog going among the commercial,
commercial-open source, and open source participants in the COSMOS
community about:
- Benefits of community process
- Potential for interoperability
- Strength of SML as a modeling language

I'll go add these $USD 0.02 to the wiki page, but also wanted to put my
name in the hat here.

Thanks,
-- Craig.

Oliver,
I'd like IBM to be represented on the panel, probably either me or Harm,
but I might explore other folks from Tivoli as well. Count us in!

The idea of presenting SML is a good one. Since there is an interop
scheduled for January, we should be able to fill a demo and a long talk.
The Technology mailing list had a call for tutorials, and, believe
it or not, no one has submitted anything. This could be a great
opportunity for us as we approach the deadline for Long Talks and Demos.

I did a poster on COSMOS at the Eclipse Summit and would be happy to
update that with information from the community. I will also be happy
to handle the logistics of a poster, e.g. printing it out, getting it to
CA etc. I've updated the wiki with the .ppt of the poster from Eslingen
( http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/COSMOSEclipseConTopics#Pos ter)

Tabletop. Well, I like to eat, so I'm in.

BOF. I'm in.

BTW...
Joel Hawkins of Compuware and I submitted a talk that will cover the
WSDM flavor of the BtM toolkit and Corona. That submission is here
(http://eclipsezilla.eclipsecon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3596)
I'll definitely be highlighting COSMOS in this, although it won't be the
"headline" per se.

Also, as we were getting things going, Matt Mings and I submitted one
for the BTM toolkit:
(http://eclipsezilla.eclipsecon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3590) If you (or
anyone else) would like to participate, that would be great!

<shamelessSolicitationForVotes>
well.... this goes without saying, right?

Good idea. I'd be happy to work with someone on the intro to COSMOS
short talk.

I've received tentative agreement from Ric Telford, Vice President, IBM
Tivloi Autonomic Computing, to be a panelist. I'd like to circle back
with this group to see if we can't finalize a set of discussion topics
and panelists.

So far, we have Ric and Craig. We need at least two more.

I am shameless in my desire for fame, but I will take no offense if
you would like someone who actually is more involved in the SML or other
efforts.

Just a reminder, I volunteered Roger Castillo, CTO of AlterPoint and the
soon to be announced Eclipse-based ZipTie OSS project as someone who
would participate on the OSS/Sysman panel.
