I found this pretty cool:

In case it's not obvious from the webpage, MySQL are giving away

- weekly prizes for filing reproducible bugs (keyword here being
reproducible)

- three grand prizes to folks who file reproducible bugs and blog about
MySQL (and aggregate to planetmysql.org)

This is a neat idea

I think it's a fine idea. Should we try something like this for 3.2?

clear to me how they picked a winner in the mySQL contest - presumably
for the most *valid* (non duplicate or invalid) bugs in the week? Bugs
logged by the same person who fixed the bug would also not count <g>.

I like this idea a lot in general.

But if you do this I don't think the one with the most should be the winner.

I think it should rater be like JavaRanch's book promotions. Every valid
entry gives you a "ticket" and you draw on random. So people with more
valid bugs reports have a higher chance of winning, but any Joe Shmoe has
at least a chance. If not, I don't think you encourage people outside of
the normal bunch that already report bugs to-do this, and they/we would
report the bugs anyway.

I like that idea. Seems more inclusive.

Any other ideas out there?

I agree... I guess as someone who has logged over a thousand Eclipse

That's a good idea!

It seems a shame that people who fix the bugs would be excluded, even if
it does give some opportunity to game the system. Maybe instead there
should be two prizes - one for committers and another for the rest of us.

(I see I've reported only a paltry 194 bugs, so I'm eager to get John in
a different weight class. :)
