The Cloud Application Management Framework (CAMF) project leverages the Eclipse platform for offering extensible graphical tools that enable interoperable description of Cloud applications and facilitate lifecycle management operations in a transparent and vendor-neutral manner.

CAMF focuses on three distinct management operations, particularly application description, application deployment and application monitoring. To this end, it adopts the OASIS TOSCA open specification for blueprinting and packaging Cloud Applications. In addition it utilizes open-source tool kits such as Apache® jclouds for portable across-Cloud application deployment, as well as Chef for writing "recipes" that orchestrate application configuration processes upon deployment.

Furthermore, CAMF provides the necessary programming interfaces that enable Cloud developers to specify resource adaptation policies and desired actions, as well as various monitoring operations at different levels of an application's structure.

Hi,

nice to see TOSCA being adapted by other opensource projects.

I wonder why you want to go to the umbrella of the technology project, wouldn't SOA be more fitting?

Is there any binary/demo around where one can play with CAMF?

Many thanks for the interest on the CAMF project proposal!

Yes indeed, TOSCA has a great potential concerning Cloud application management! With the upcoming v.1.1 of the specification, we have a greater opportunity to develop interesting tools withing the scope of open-source Cloud projects.

We decided to join the community under the Technology umbrella since we are trying to integrate various technologies under the Eclipse RCP in order to achieve Cloud Application Management. These technologies include (1) TOSCA for application blueprinting, (2) RSYBL for elasticity requirements specification, (3) Chef for contextualization, (4) JClouds for interrogating/interfacing with IaaS resources, and finally (4) Monitoring systems to close the loop. The idea is to provide all this functionality to Cloud application developers under a unified RCP-based framework, that would minimize the need of leaving their development workspace. So in essence the perspective Cloud actor, develops (JDT/CDT/etc) its application, and consequently deploys, monitors and manages it within the same environment.

Nevertheless, as you already mentioned, the SOA platform is also fitting for CAMF as a parent project. We are currently discussing this with the EMO - and we will go over the SOA charter internally - to make a final decision prior the project creation review.

Of course any insights, comments or suggestions are highly welcome.
