Hello Guys,

I am a new guy with Eclipse as well as this forum. I've to develop JSF, Spring applications including tomcat7, maven.

I've some questions regarding Eclipse.

I have downloaded and installed Eclipse Luna Release (4.4.0). My OS is Ubuntu 14.04.
I've also installed tomcat7.

How can I more productive using Eclipse in Linux?

Thanks!

As Eclipse runs atop Java, it is cross-platform. I too choose to develop
on Linux and have done so for nearly a decade since I made the switch
from C/assembly to Java and exclusively on Linux for 5 years now. Off
and on before that, I used Eclipse on Windows in parallel with Linux,
though only because, for some of that time, my Windows workstation was
more performant than what I was using to run Linux.

While I appreciate the everyday tools of Unix and Linux, outside
Eclipse, as vastly superior to anything that can be found on Windows,
still it's the case that the Eclipse workbench is the Eclipse workbench
and within that setting, you've equal access to most or everything on
Macintosh (which is more or less Unix), Linux and Windows. So, OS
platform isn't usually a big difference strictly speaking when using
Eclipse.

There are hybrid things you can do. For example, I never use Git
integration on Eclipse, only via the command line, and I frequently use
Vim to edit files except when Eclipse Content Assist is particularly
welcome and useful at the moment (there's a solution to that from within
Vim, but I'm only trying to give an example here of how I might do
something outside Eclipse). But, that's how I'd do those things under
Windows too.

This is to say that if you Google out reviews on Eclipse, you'll find
out about Eclipse, maybe some tricks and suggestions, but I don't know
of specific articles or reviews that answer the question, "How can I
be[come] more productive using Eclipse [on any particular OS]?" Most
Eclipse advice works equally well across all platforms.

Having said this, there are occasional problems, especially at first,
surrounding getting Eclipse to run that are slightly different between
OS platforms. Come to this forum to work those out; you'll get answers
from Windows guys, Macintosh guys and Linux guys.

Welcome!

I'd install STS (Spring Tool Suite) and JBoss Developer Studio
plugins.
