Hi,

are there any plans for Sirius to work with the RAP run-time or for it
to offer it's own web run-time?

Nigel

Hi Nigel .

The team has no plan to make Sirius work with the RAP runtime but would be interested in hearing about somebody experimenting with it!
That being said, a web-runtime for Sirius exists already in the SmartEA product by Obeo http://www.obeosmartea.com/product/features , mostly read-only right now but we are extending it with every release.
To enable that our current approach is focused on making Sirius more modular in general and isolate its dependencies on specific technologies. It's a medium to long-term goal but once we get there it should be easier to reuse the core Sirius platform in different runtime contexts and with different UI technologies, including (but not limited to) the web.

Hello Cedric,

Is there a support of sirius for web now ? My team likes sirius, but we want to use it also as a part of web applications.

Hi,

Not yet. There are "workarounds" like https://github.com/neilmackenzie/jbds-via-html5, which execute Sirius as-is and export its UI via the VNC-like protocol, which can then be accessed from any browser.

As Cédric mentioned, it's a relatively long-term goal, which will require significant investments and relatively deep technical changes in Sirius. For Sirius 6 (in 2018), we plan to start integrating some web technologies with an "Activity Explorer" similar to the one existing in Capella (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGpHMR_j3AM), but implemented in HTML/JS and seamlessly integrated in Sirius. We're also looking at integrating Sprotty (https://github.com/theia-ide/sprotty) for diagram visualisation and exploration.

In short, the message is: we're very aware of this need, and are taking some concrete steps to move towards it, but we're also looking for partners to help us move faster and make sure we address the correct needs. "Sirius on the web" can mean different things to different people, so if you have concrete requirements we would be happy to hear about them (here on the forum or in private if you prefer).

Regards,

Pierre-Charles David - Obeo
