Hi there, I'm Fabio
I'm very interested on this project, I have already downloaded, compiled and run the server and designer from the source.
I have got some questions
* Where is the mobile app? I found the "openHAB". Is it neccesary to create a new app for Eclipse SmartHome? In this case I can help, I created an app with phonegap (hybrid, multi-platform) and I'm developing two small apps for android (native)
* When I saw, for the first time the project, I said "very very nice", and then, "Where is the block editor to define the rules?" I think this feature is very important because the target users, most likely, are not developers. I found a topic on openHAB Google groups, if we want to insert this new feature, is it necessary to extend actual designer from scratch or we can merge from openHAB?
* For me the next step is fork the project on my github and take an issue. About that, can I take an issue, not assigned yet, and work on it, or is necessary let you know before I start?
Thanks and congratulations for the project!

The rule editor is here (https://github.com/cdjackson/HABmin/wiki/Rule-Designer%3A-Overview). It's still work in progress.
Note that you talk about ESH and openHAB separately. In fact they are still the same (maybe Kai will correct me). ESH will become the core for openHAB V2, so your questions about mobile apps etc are that openHAB is the user focused solution with the mobile apps, the rule configuration GUI, bindings, etc, and ESH provides the backend 'core' functionality.
