Hi Barry,

In terms of GEF it is pretty simple to contibute not that you have your
development environment set up.

1) Pick a defect in Bugzilla.
2) Confirm it is an issue for all GEF clients. You can either duplicate
through a code snippet or through one of the GEF examples. Once you have
duplicated and confirmed the issue, document in the Bugzilla.
3) Fix the issue. Note that breaking API changes are not tolerated. Post the
patch to the Bugzilla for review.
4) Committers review the patch and committ to CVS if the fix is appropriate.

Note that the steps above are what we recommend for all GEF developers
raising bugs on GEF. Like any open source project, we all hope that users of
GEF contribute fixes they find to issues through patches so everyone
benefits.

status of his patch. The patch contained generics which are only supported
in java 5, but GEF currently targets 1.4 JRE. I'm not sure how this
contributor got into a state where the patch he was providing wouldn't
compile in CVS, but it's something to watch out for when providing patches.
