Turn off current variable highlighting [message #234166] Sat, 22 September 2007 18:31 Go to next message

Sorry - I should be able to figure this out on my own, but no luck so far.

How do I get Eclipse to stop highlighting the current variable in my
code? If your cursor is on a variable, class, or method name, it gets
highlighted in gray, and every other instance of it in the file is also
highlighted. It's very distracting and annoying. How do I turn it off?

Chris,

Use "Windows->Preferences->Java->Editor->Mark Occurrences->Mark
occurrences of the selected element in the current file"

I have a love-hate relationship with mark-occurrences. I love it when I need but
sometimes, like Chris I find it distracting.

To temporarily turn it off would be great, with a key stroke - the ESC key would
be highly appropriate - just until the cursor lands on another item.

There's a toolbar button to toggle it on and off. The button icon looks
like a yellow highlighter pen.
There is also a keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+O) that is easy to find
under Preferences > General > Keys

Hope this helps,
Eric
