When viewing the BIRT report XML source in Eclipse Keplar- I use the Ctrl-F to find a string within XML source. When I click on the occurrence, the page automatically jumps to the very top- rendering the find useless. Does anyone know if this is an Eclipse bug or a BIRT bug? Thanks

What version of BIRT are you using and on what environment? A couple of
months back I had a similar issue that wasn't related to BIRT and I had
to reset my key bindings in Eclipse. Not the exact same as what your
describing but your env might give us a hint as to what's going on.
Also you could try running eclipsec from a console to see more output
and check if eclipse is trying to say anything in the background.

I see the same behavior in Eclipse-Luna, BIRT version 4.4.0 and it absolutely drives me nuts. Only seems to happen with XML files.

One thing I noticed is that if you search on something and find a result . . . and see the result highlighted . . . if you hit escape on the search dialog (to close it) and click in the XML window, the searched item will be focused and in view, otherwise the file scrolls to the top as you describe. This helps but is a real pain in the rear when you need to search multiple instances of the same thing and review surrounding code.
