theme:

Usability Enhancements - There are various issues raised on the
usability of GEF based diagrams. This theme is to improve usability of

Hi Al,

These Bugzillas will have the "usability" keyword.

Currently there are none open on GEF with the "usability" keyword.

Cheers...

Hi,
there any plan to move some code from GMF to GEF. The editor generated by
GMF framework are very usefull and with a lot of features (grid, ruler,
auto-layout, zoom, etc...).

There any plan to get this code in pure GEF. The effort of providing a
basic editor can be reduce at minimum.

hi anthony,

i'm trying to understand the intention of the theme item.

for instance, i'd like to see support in GEF which would allow me to
place a collapsible context thumbnail of the diagram in a corner of the
diagram (like google maps does), instead of in a separate view window.
this would definitely allow more "usable" (IMO) applications to be built
on top of GEF.

is this the kind of usability improvement intended by the theme?

regards,

al

Yes, that is a major consideration for one's decision to base an application
on the GMF Runtime rather than pure GEF.

Hi Al,

This would be an application feature, as opposed to a GEF (framework)
feature.

The intent of the theme item was to identify issues in GEF that prevented
developers from creating usable diagram editors. This was an extension of
the Eclipse 3.3 theme Performance and Usability. (you know what, now that we
created the theme in the plan, we cannot find any usability defects).

Cheers...

Your are right, but your domain model must be in EMF and this is a big
constraint. Why we do not use EMF in our current project? EMF is not
ready...yet...to be persist in a database.

Do you know if there is any articles or documentation available that show
how to "Decorate" the basic domain model with an EMF model?

Thanks
