Hi all,

We've released some code to the BPEL project. This code represents the
initial state of the BPEL editor and model. This isn't necessarily the
complete contribution - stay tuned to this channel. This contribution
doesn't include validation, samples, docs, nor any runtime framework or
debug code.

The web page is http://www.eclipse.org/bpel/ and will be updated in the
near future with this information (and more).

** So you want to try it out...

1. Get these dependencies:

Eclipse 3.2M3
EMF 2.2.0M3
GEF 3.2M3
WST (Web Standard Tools) 1.0M8 (1.0M9 is out now and should work as well)

Make sure your Target Platform includes these dependencies (see
Window->Preferences->Plug-in Development->Target Platform)

2. Check out the following plug-ins from
:pserver:anonymous@dev.eclipse.org:/cvsroot/technology

In folder org.eclipse.bpel/plugins:

org.eclipse.bpel.common.model
org.eclipse.bpel.common.ui
org.eclipse.bpel.model
org.eclipse.bpel.ui

3. Launch a runtime workbench (a.k.a. Eclipse Application).

4. Create a new project. In this project, drop the attached .bpel and
..wsdl files.

5. Double-click on the .bpel file to open the BPEL editor.

** What does it do?

-Opens, views, edits and saves a .bpel file
-Create new activities, modify their properties (in the Properties view)
-Supports BPEL 1.1 + a few select OASIS issues

** What doesn't it do yet?

-No file browsing dialogs, so you can't browse for WSDL or XSD files
-No wizard to create new BPEL files
-Full BPEL 2.0 compliance
-Validation, Debug, or talking to a Runtime

** I found a bug!

We now have Bugzilla components (in the Technology Project). Or you can
click here to log a bug directly into one of our components:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/enter_bug.cgi?product=Bpel

Patches are most welcome.

Sorry about that. The webmaster seems to have fixed that - it was
initially created with the wrong permissions.

Let us know if you have any other problems.

The ZIP file isn't either ?!
It cannot be opened with regular ZIP tools stating it is not a valid
archive.

Could you please upload a correct one? Either here, or on the page, once
it is filled.

Thanks,
Werner

Hi Werner,

I downloaded it from the newsgroup and it looks fine to me. I'll try to
find a place to upload it (either to CVS or to the web page) and I'll
post here when it's up.

I guess you use some kind of news reader?
Due to firewall restrictions I must use the web reader. Maybe the problem
is limited to its use?

If it is available somewhere else, I'd be glad to try again.

That must be why. I also posted it to the mailing list. And although the
mailing list isn't yet listed on eclipse.org, you can get to it
nonetheless. Here's a direct link to my message, which includes the
attachment:

Thank you IBM and the IBM team for this contribution. It is very exciting
to be able to leverage that as a starting point.

One question: You sent out an email last week regarding documentation.
Does this source code includes the initial "docs" or to you envision
shipping/releasing those separately?

Michal should be back tomorrow. I suggest that we try to set up a call on
Monday or Tuesday next week to sync up.

Thanks!
Edwin

Hi Edwin,

We have a number of design documents that we are in the process of
posting on the web page. These include documents on the model, the start
of a document on the editor, and another describing various extension
points and how to use them.

As far as user-facing documentation, we don't have any of that
currently, and envision that it will be developed alongside the editor
in open source. Documentation is one of those things that is often
fairly product-specific, so a fresh start on that might be best.

A call next week sounds good - we can pick a time that's not early in
the morning for you guys on the west coast, and I can send dial-in info
out to the dev mailing list.

Hi

I have followed the instructions on the BPEL Install web page. When I get
to step 5, where do I find the .bpel file. I have poked around and can
not find it.

By the way, I chose the wtp-wst-sdk1.0.zip file for the web standard
stuff. Is that correct?

Thanks for any help

Hi Don,

In step 4, you extract the files from either the simple example or the
order processing example. The zip files linked to in step four contain
all of the necessary bpel, wsdl and xsd files.

The WTP zip you downloaded should be fine.

Hope this helps, let us know if you have any other difficulties.

Hi Stoil,

How did you run it? Because of this NPE it seems that you are not
running a runtime-workbench. In order to launch a runtime-workbench do
the following:

1) In Eclipse, select the menu Run
2) Select "Run..."
3) Right click on "Eclipse Application" and select New.
4) Select the newly created launch configuration and press Run.

That should work. Let us know if have any problems.

Thanks a lot! This solved my problem.
I run existing Eclipse run configuration which I thought was ok.

Best regards,
Stoil

>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>Make sure your Target Platform includes these dependencies (see
>>>Window->Preferences->Plug-in Development->Target Platform)
>>>
>>>2. Check out the following plug-ins from
>>>:pserver:anonymous@dev.eclipse.org:/cvsroot/technology
>>>
>>>In folder org.eclipse.bpel/plugins:
>>>
>>>org.eclipse.bpel.common.model
>>>org.eclipse.bpel.common.ui
>>>org.eclipse.bpel.model
>>>org.eclipse.bpel.ui
>>>
>>>3. Launch a runtime workbench (a.k.a. Eclipse Application).
>>>
>>>4. Create a new project. In this project, drop the attached .bpel and
>>>.wsdl files.
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>Patches are most welcome.
