Hey,

Just to check, as I haven't seen any around, is it possible to build gef
based applications that are not plug-ins.

Only just started with gef, I want to build an appliocation where the user
can build their own models with a graphical editor... migth ne a silly
questoin, but as I said, just started.

Cheers

Have a look at applications (no matter whether they are GEF-based or not).
Applications are sets of plugins.

Hi,

For an example of an stand-alone application you can find it in here:
http://www13.plala.or.jp/observe/GEF/GEF_StandAlone.html and
http://www13.plala.or.jp/observe/GEF/GEF_Tool_StandAlone.htm l

It is in japanesse, but the examples are ok (I don't speek japanesse). I
think that it is the only place where this is explained.

However you may try to do and RCP application; in fact I think that this is
the best solution.

Okay, but I don't want to build a plug-in. I wan to t build a stand alone
graphical editor for end users to be able to build their own models.

If I build as an eclipse plug-in can I then have it run by itself?

Would it not be easier to build a totally seperate app from the start?

You can

1. make and RCP
2. make a stand alone application, as explained in the links I attached in
the previous message

Right so, going to try a plug-in using RCP which can then be turned into a
standalone app.

Unzipped the Japanese projects, added the jars to the build path but
getting errors. Probably better I go with the RCP approach and do it
properly.

Cheers for your help.
