Does anyone know if there exists a way to use MoDisco Discovery to import Word docx files into a KDM to discover architectures or use domain specific terms that are sourced in requirements documents?

Generally, speaking I'm looking a way to take a body of knowledge stored in Word documents and convert those into something usable for knowledge discovery of existing systems. The ultimate goal is to then turn that in a KDM and then eventually a full-blown model of the system as it matures through the knowledge discovery process.

For example, say you only have access to the use cases and general business requirements for a product (e.g. not Java code or any other code source). Is it possible or is there a discoverer that I can download that will contain a way to map formatting to a UML model? More specifically, converting a Word docx file that has Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, and Body Text formatting. Then just map those formats as levels in a hierarchical model in some fashion.

Hello,

Thanks a lot for your interest in MoDisco and (model driven) reverse engineering.

The current MoDisco version is not providing specific model discovery support from Word docx files.
However, if the content is somehow saved in XML format, you can use the MoDisco XML model discoverer to obtain corresponding XML model(s) that you can then transform to other models (e.g. UML) if you want to.
For more information on available MoDisco components, please refer to the official documentation (category MoDisco) or to other supporting slides/presentations.

Having that said, the way to implement the actual mapping (from Word content) to UML is quite specific to your scenario, objective, etc. and there is no unique solution there.

Best regards,
