Anyone have any good experience of a simple screen recorder which can be used to create demos of a DSL? I have Windows8 (using Desktop mode of course) and the latest Xtext Kepler eclipse.
Ezvid only sends to YouTube and Camstudio is rumored to come with malware so I'm wondering what others used to do the vimeo tutorial clips.

Have you tried Google Hangout ? I think it records as well.

if you prefer freeware: what about WINK? http://www.debugmode.com/wink/
on the side which costs: I use CAMTASIA Studio since a couple of years now

Ah of course, this would work well to give a demo and record the session for others. Seems so obvious now.
Thanks Henrik!

Thanks for the reference. It looks like wink only does screenshots rather than continuous capture which I think Hangouts will be the best solution.

I have used Camtasia successfully in the past for Powerpoint to video creation but the current version of it as Camstudio seems to have so many strong warnings in its reviews I decided to avoid it.
(see all 7 x 1-star reviews at the end of the cnet download page - http://download.cnet.com/CamStudio/3000-13633_4-10067101.html )

Wink can be set (beside others) to take screenshots with any keyboard or mouse events which gives you the screen capture you have asked for.

The Plus for Wink is that you can add Information which stop the video until some "OK" button is pushed. Gives you some teaching options.

I always use Acethinker Free Screen Recorder to make screencast for my YouTube channel, works quite well. It is a cloud based software to record computer screen without install any software in your pc.
