Displaying external feedback - Layer? [message #208149] Fri, 27 January 2006 10:32

Hi everyone,
I have an editor that needs to display graphical feedback from external,
plugged-in applications, e.g. display analysis results in a diagram.

Where's the best place to "paint" this feedback? Should I add another
Layer to my ScalableFreeformRootEditPart? Furthermore, I have in mind to
not only display feedback, but also to request user input like "choose
an element". Then, all other editing should be disabled until the user
makes the choice.

This feedback/interaction does not come directly from the application
model, which is rather static. I plan to provide a "FeedbackManager"
that needs to manage this feedback/interaction based on external requests.

Any solutions, experience, suggestions, best practices?!

Thanks a lot

Joel
